WinnersSUSAN STORY The president and CEO of Gulf Power Company resigned from the Community Maritime Park Associates Board to halt any potential appearance of Sunshine Law violations with her employee and new board member Bentina Terry. Story has been a vocal supporter for the Contractor Academy. Her quiet leadership will be missed.JEFF MILLER The Republican congressman from Chumuckla scored big with the first Emerald Coast Honor Flight that took a hundred World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II Memorial and other nearby memorials. The Emerald Coast Honor Flight cost about $65,000. Baptist Health Care and Humana Veterans Healthcare Services each contributed $25,000 for the trip, while other companies and individuals donated the remainder. Ross Perot recently contributed $25,000 for a second trip scheduled for this fall.PJC TEACHING EXCELLENCE Pensacola Junior College announced the 2007-08 inductees of the Teaching Excellence Award: Paige Anderson, assistant professor of English; Jennifer Ehrhardt, assistant professor of English and communications; Julie Ruengert, assistant professor of English and journalism; Charlie Schuler, associate professor of history, languages and philosophy; and Jami Benton, adjunct instructor of English and communications. Bobby Roberson, assistant professor of chemistry, was named the outstanding new faculty. Past PJC President Charles Atwell established the Academy of Teaching Excellence in 1986 to recognize outstanding faculty.LosersOTIS ENGLISH The serial home dumper has allegedly been caught again. This time, Escambia County Code Enforcement found a dilapidated house and a trailer on a lot he doesnt own during a recent sweep of the Ensley neighborhood. Does anyone know where the Bayfront Auditorium is?EMERALD COAST UTILITIES AUTHORITY The water supplier and half-hearted curbside recycler had trouble with its water lines last week. A precautionary boil-water notice was issued for all Emerald Coast Utilities Authority customers on the following streets: Muscoda, Nokomis, Cochise, Tonto, Minnetonka, Hiawatha and Lockhart, north of Tangen Street, and Bowman Avenue, from East Nine Mile Road to East Nine and a Half Mile Road.NAVARRE PASS Forget about it. The project that could wind up costing hundreds of millions will never happen. Gulf Islands National Seashore officials oppose cutting a pass because it threatens the national park's beaches. Yes, it would make Navarre more competitive with Destin, but no one wants an area like Destin.
