Krewe Karrus Navalis is challenging all local Krewes participating in Pensacola Mardi Gras to donate canned food to the 2nd Annual Karrus Navalis Krewe Challenge Food Drive. They are challenging all Krewes to collect as much food as possible until February 12, “Fat Tuesday”. All food collected will benefit Waterfront Rescue Mission.
The Krewe who collects the most pounds of food will be awarded the Krewe Karrus Navalis/Pensacola Mardi Gras Humanitarian Award during celebrations on Fat Tuesday. Last year over 6300 lbs. was collected. This year’s goal is to collect 10,000 lbs. Although Krewe Karrus Navalis will be collecting food and keeping up with the donation weights, they will not be competing for the trophy.
This year Krewe Karrus Navalis will be holding a drawing for multiple prizes that include a one night stay at New World Landing, a Blue-Ray player from Dan’s Satellite in Pace and others. All Krewes, as well as the general public, are allowed to participate in this drawing. Anyone wishing to donate food will receive 5 tickets toward the drawing for every 5 cans of food. Pensacola Mardi Gras is awarding 5 Priscus Beans to your Krewe for every 10 pounds of food donated.
Those wishing to donate food outside of the competition or under the name of their Krewe can drop off on Friday, February 8, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at New World Landing (600 S Palafox St.)
