Abhaya Yoga Center Announces 3rd Annual Yoga Teacher Training

Nancy LaNasa, Abhaya Yoga Center owner and director, announced today that she will host Abhaya’s 3rd annual 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program. The training will span from September 2013 through May 2014.  Registrants will participate in intensive trainings for one weekend a month for these 9 months.

The teacher training program will allow for immersion in asana, alignment, yogic philosophy, Sanskrit, and meditation. Daily asana practice is a requirement, and the required reading covers an extensive and thorough books list.  Each of our participants will mentor with an Abhaya Senior Teacher, thus allowing for a deeper relationship to all aspects of the teacher training, asana, and meditation practice generating a well-rounded and in-depth teacher training experience.

Guest teachers for the teacher training program will include Catherine L. McCarthy of New Orleans (www.nolayoga.com), Alison West of New York City (www.yogaunion.com), and Prudence F. Bruns, PhD. (www.prudencefbruns.com).  Abhaya’s teacher training program is led by Nancy LaNasa, and Abhaya Yoga Center Senior Teachers Rebecca Sathre and Tammy Virchow-Urbansky. Nancy is one of the first-ever certified Jivamukti Yoga School teachers, having received certification in that method with 4 others in 1995 in NYC. She is also a graduate, in 1990, of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Kerala, India. Rebecca graduated from the Sivananda Yoga Ashram Retreat in Paradise Island, Bahamas in 2001.  Rebecca is also a graduate of the Vedic Conservatory of Thai Yoga Bodywork. Tammy Virchow-Urbansky graduated in 2006 from the Dragonfly Yoga Teacher Training in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.

Abhaya’s senior teachers, Nancy, Rebecca, and Tammy are already well-known and beloved in the Pensacola yoga community.  When asked about the teacher training programmed they agreed with Nancy’s sentiments. “We are, all three of us, delighted to offer this training.  It also allows us to deepen our own connection to the community and to the ancient practice of Yoga.”  Further, LaNasa stated, “Whether you want to teach yoga or simply deepen your knowledge, this is an excellent opportunity.”
