On Oct. 10, people across the planet will join the 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the world’s largest day of practical action to fight the climate crisis. Organizers in Pensacola expect as many as 300 people to attend this free, kid-friendly, activity-oriented fair to illustrate how each of us can play a part in reducing our carbon footprint. Activities such as making sun tea, organic garden set-up, kids’ yoga and eco-games are planned. Guest speakers include environmentalist Christian Wagley, bicyclist Stephen Hyde and writer and educator Susan Feathers. A highlight of the event will be our fairgoers’ stand with the 350 banner to show our pledge to work towards reducing our carbon emissions in the coming year. Representatives from Ever’man Natural Foods, Abhaya Yoga Center, Truly Spokin’ Bicycles and Four Leaf Clover Body Therapy will also participate.
A shoe drive to benefit Soles4Souls (soles4souls.org) is also on the agenda. Recycle “gently-worn” shoes for the needy instead of sending them to the landfill. Dee Dee Green, Recycling Coordinator, Escambia County Division of Solid Waste Management, will help us deliver donated shoes to Soles4Souls.
