The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) announces an art contest to showcase the newest item in the Authority’s environmental toolbox—-a Peterbilt Model 320 HLA (Hydraulic Launch Assist) Hybrid sanitation truck, or better known as the “Clean, Green, ECO-Machine.” The contest, open to all legal residents of Escambia County, begins on Wednesday, September 29, 2010
The new environmental truck is considerably quieter compared to standard sanitation trucks in its daily stop, pick-up, and go operations. The new vehicle delivers a significant thirty to forty percent reduction in emissions, and a thirty percent improvement in fuel consumption. Even better, brake-related maintenance costs are reduced by fifty percent, doubling the brakes life expectancy while using biodegradable hydraulic oil, which is friendlier to the environment.
Using the general theme of environmental awareness as their inspiration, residents of all ages are invited to submit an original creation to the ECUA “Clean, Green, ECO Machine” Art Contest. The winning entry will be displayed on the sides of the new ECUA “ECO-Machine” sanitation truck during the 2010-2011 year, on ecua.org (full contest description below), and the artist will receive the grand prize, a Fujifilm Fine Pix S1800 digital camera.
Subjects can range from literal representations of the Authority collecting trash, recycling garbage, clean water, or protecting our environment, or something more abstract, not at all directly related to the ECUA—something more personal that represents what a clean environment means to the individual.
A judging panel comprised of ECUA Board Members, will select the winning entry. The winning submission will be announced, and the winner notified, on Friday, October 29, 2010. The entries will be judged on creativity, originality, quality, and the overall artistic ability.
All entries must be original artwork creations by the contestant. Artwork must be submitted in a jpeg format. The specifications include: image size 640 pixels (height) x 296 pixels (width), and a resolution factor of 300 dpi.
All entries should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, mailed, or delivered on CD (with printed copy), to ECUA, 9255 Sturdevant Street, Pensacola, Florida 32514, and should include the artist’s name, address, and phone number along with the artwork. Entries must be received no later than Friday, October 22, 2010 @ 5:00pm CDT.
