Community Outreach: Fire Safety Month Event

Press Release:

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is kicking off October’s Fire Safety Month on Oct. 2, 2010 with a day of community fun including firefighter demonstrations, family activities, fire safety tips, and delicious steaming hot subs. Fire Safety Month is also an opportunity to support our local heroes by purchasing medallions for $1 or $5. These funds help provide much-needed lifesaving equipment to public safety entities and provide education through distribution of fire safety prevention tools. The Firehouse Subs founders’ 200-years of firefighting heritage inspired the formation of Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to improve life-saving capabilities of fire, police and EMS.

“We are fired up for Fire Safety Month and want to raise awareness, as well as funds, for deserving departments through our kick off events,” said Robin Peters, Executive Director of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “Through donations raised in our restaurants, we have given $2.2 million in lifesaving equipment to fire and police departments across the country. We hope to raise a record amount this October, to give back to our first responders.”

Participating locations are offering a variety of food, fire truck and police car displays, chances to win collectible toy fire trucks, as well as a bounce houses and games. Firehouse Subs will also be passing out fire safety tips to ensure each family has a plan.

The Foundation’s funds for equipment are raised through individual donations, pickle bucket sales and canisters placed by registers. Each restaurant recycles leftover five-gallon pickle buckets and allows customers to purchase for $2, and donation canisters on register counters collect change.

The event takes place at two locations in Pensacola, Fla.

·     2 E. 9 Mile Rd.

·     1741 E. 9 Mile Rd.

Firehouse Subs®, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen, is a 395-unit fast-casual restaurant chain. Subs offer oversized portions of premium hand-sliced meats and cheeses, steamed to make the flavors burst, then piled high with fresh produce atop a toasted sub roll. Restaurants reflect the authentic firefighter heritage, as well as the founding family’s 200 years of firefighting service. Firehouse Subs was named “National Chain” winner of the National Restaurant Association’s (NRA) Restaurant Neighbor Award for their overall dedication to community service.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the non-profit Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc., a 501 c (3) and is dedicated to improving the life-saving capabilities of emergency services in communities served by Firehouse Subs by providing funding, resources and support to deserving public safety entities. Over the past two years, the Foundation has donated more than $2.2 million in equipment and resources.
