On October 10, people across the planet will join the 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the world’s largest day of practical action to fight the climate crisis.
Organizers in Pensacola expect as many as 300 people to attend this free kid-friendly, activity-oriented fair to illustrate how each of us can play a part in reducing our carbon footprint. Activities such as organic garden set-up, kids yoga, art projects and eco-games are planned. Guest speakers include environmentalist Christian Wagley, bicyclist Stephen Hyde, writer and educator Susan Feathers, and Aneurin Grant, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Engineering and Computer Technology at UWF. A highlight of the event will be our fair goers’ stand with the 350 banner to show our pledge to work towards reducing our carbon emissions in the coming year. We’re sending a simple message to our politicians: we’re getting to work, what about you?
A shoe drive to benefit Soles4Souls (www.soles4souls.org) is also on the agenda. Recycle “gently-worn” shoes for the needy instead of sending them to the landfill. Dee Dee Green, Recycling Coordinator, Escambia County Division of Solid Waste Management, will help us deliver donated shoes to Soles4Souls.
The 10/10/10 Global Work Party is being coordinated by the international climate campaign 350.org and 10:10 Global. Photos and video from thousands of simultaneous events across the planet will also be available for the media at350.org/media.
