After spending years abroad working for the government as a morale, welfare and recreation manager, Jason Burnett — a husband and father of two — decided to open his own business. Here, he talks about his experiences helping others abroad and his desire to help those right here in our own community.
IN: How did you become interested in the home health care industry?
BURNETT: I enjoy helping others and being a service to others. In today’s society I think we need more people who are into helping others and being a service to others instead of the what’s-in-it-for-me attitude.
After seven years in the Middle East and traveling all over the world, meeting new people and learning new cultures, my wife and I began to think about a business we could open in the Pensacola area that would be a help to others and at the same time, like any other business, be profitable. We began to do research and found out that the population of America is starting to age. Plus, the life expectancy is longer now than what it was a few decades ago.
IN: What kinds of different services do you offer at Cornerstone Visiting Angels?
BURNETT: (Cornerstone Visiting Angels) is an in-home non-medical service that provides housekeeping, transportation services, meal preparations, errand running, medication reminders, companionship/sitter services, and other activities of daily living services. We make our services affordable, especially with most of our clients being on a fixed monthly income. Along with the affordable price we offer, it includes all of the services we provide. We also send the same Visiting Angels to the client each time because we want to build a relationship with each of our clients, and it also provides consistency of services.
IN: What’s the best part of your job?
BURNETT: We are offering services to our clients at an affordable price who normally may not be able to afford such services. When you can help someone with daily activities, especially the elderly, you decrease the chances of potential accidents such as falls, auto accidents, and forgetting to take their meds, and you give peace of mind for the loved one that hired us to assist with their parents knowing that they have a trusted friend helping their loved ones.
IN: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not overseeing your business?
BURNETT: In my free time I like to spend it with family and friends. I also like to go fishing and love to travel. I’ve been blessed to be able to travel all over the world and I love it!
