To get garden inspiration, head to Open Books for their screening of “The Garden: Transforming Urban Blight into Eden,” on March 20 at 7 p.m. The film is about a group of farmers in South Central Los Angeles who took urban ruin and turned it into Eden, watching as the plants they tended to were bulldozed by a selfish landowner.
The film follows the poor Los Angelenos and their fight to preserve their garden and what they’ve done to recover from its loss. After the film, learn how you can get involved with local community garden projects. Joey Davis and Sarah Bossa from Manna Food Pantries will be there to discuss the issue of food deserts and food security in the greater Pensacola area.
